Abstract

Objective: To explore the feasibility and efficacy of fusidic acid (FA) cream as an adjunct in intra-incisional dressings for postoperative care of children with concealed penis, by analyzing its effects on incision recovery and caregiver satisfaction.

Methodology: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 186 children who underwent modified Devine procedure for concealed penis at The Second Hospital of Hebei Medical University (July 2023–November 2025). Patients were divided into FA group (n=84, FA cream added to intra-incisional dressing) and Vaseline gauze group (n=102, conventional dressing). Clinical data (age, operative time, intraoperative blood loss, postoperative bleeding/infection) and caregiver satisfaction (Likert scale) were collected and compared between groups.

Results: No significant intergroup differences were found in age, operative time, or intraoperative blood loss (P>0.05). The FA group had fewer cases of postoperative bleeding and infection, lower dressing change frequency, and shorter dressing change time (all P<0.05). Satisfaction scores in the FA group were significantly higher than the control group for all dimensions except doctor communication (P>0.05), with a higher overall satisfaction score.

Conclusion: Adjunctive FA cream in intra-incisional dressings effectively controls peri-incisional infection, accelerates incision healing, reduces complications and dressing change burden, and improves caregiver satisfaction in children with concealed penis, making it worthy of clinical promotion.
